Swiss University Degree

If you have a bachelor’s degree from a Swiss University or Swiss University of Applied Sciences, please find more information about the application process as described below.

1) Registration at UniBE

First, please apply at www.application.unibe.ch. You will receive a confirmation of receipt by email within 5 days.

The regular registration deadline is 30th April 2026.

An application received after the regular deadline is possible until 31st August 2026 and costs an additional CHF 100.

 

2) Assessment for the MSc PrE

After receiving your application and application fee, your documents will be forwarded to the Faculty of Science and submitted to the School of Biomedical and Precision Engineering for evaluation.

  • If your final grade is an unrounded 5.0 or C on the ECTS grading scale, you will be admitted to the program without any additional requirements.
  • If you have an unrounded 4.5 or C on the ECTS grading scale, we will invite you to an interview.
  • If you have not yet completed your bachelor's degree at the time of your application, we will calculate your grade based on your current Transcript of Records. If you are accepted, you will receive a conditional letter of admission and will be asked to submit your documents after graduation.

The assessment process takes approximately four weeks. After that, the placement decision will be sent to the Faculty of Science for review.

Standardized Interview

The standardized interview, which is conducted either on site in Bern or via video call, you will be asked questions about soft skills that are essential for your success in the MSc Precision Engineering:

These may include, but are not limited to:

  • the ability to work in a team
  • dealing with conflict situations
  • creativity and innovation
  • self-reflection and organization

The interview will be with the program directors, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Burger (University of Bern) and Prof. Dr. Volker Koch (Bern University of Applied Sciences).

It will last approximately 30 minutes and will also give you the opportunity to ask questions about the master’s program directly.

After the Assessment

After the interview, we will inform you of our decision and forward your assessment to the Faculty of Science for further processing.

You will then be invited by the Admissions Office to complete the registration formalities.

Further, you will also receive information from us about our prerequisites, a preparatory course designed to support your successful start in the Master in Precision Engineering.
