Femoroacetabular Impingement Simulation

Osteoarthritis of the hip joint is a leading cause for global disability often requiring total joint replacement. Joint preserving hip surgery for hip dysplasia and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) can delay osteoarthritis (OA) in young patients in the child-bearing age by correction of the underlying deformity. To date, there are no specific clinical tests available to diagnose and differentation between hip dysplasia and FAI which is problematic since surgical treatment differs completely for treatment of both conditions. Furthermore, the complications and re-operations associated with these operations have increased and many important clinical questions remain unanswered.

The PM group together with their partners research and develop technology to improve diagnosis, surgical planning and clinical outcome in patients with hip dysplasia and FAI by using automatic software for novel MRI-based reconstruction of 3D models of the hip joint.
