Student Tool

Students at the University of Bern have access to a range of digital platforms that support both the academic and organisational aspects of their studies. In the Master’s programme in Precision Engineering, the most frequently used systems are KSL, ILIAS and Moodle, which are essential for course registration, accessing learning materials and participating in course activities.

In addition to these main platforms, the University of Bern provides various other digital tools and services that may be used throughout the studies. A comprehensive overview of all central student tools can be found on the official University of Bern website.

The Core Teaching System (CTS), also known as Kernsystem Lehre (KSL), is the central online platform used at the University of Bern to manage and organize studies. It allows students to plan their study programme, register for courses and exams, and monitor their academic progress throughout the master’s degree. Learn more.

Course and Exam Registration

CTS/KSL is used to register for courses and exams. You have to register separately, which means that if you register for a course, you are not automatically registered for the exam. Students can add courses to their study plan and then register for exams within the platform. Registration is binding and missing a registered exam may result in a failing grade.

ILIAS is the University of Bern’s central digital learning platform. It enables lecturers to set up digital course rooms where students can access lecture materials, submit assignments, take quizzes, and participate in surveys. ILIAS also offers forums, wikis, and multimedia tools for communication and collaboration, providing students with flexible access. Learn more.

Moodle is a digital learning platform where lecturers provide course content such as materials, assignments and resources online. Students can access these materials, complete tasks and communicate with lecturers and other participants. Learn more.
