Inaugural Lecture by PD Dr. Jérôme Charmet
PD Dr. Jérôme Charmet, Associate Professor at the HES-SO Haute École Arc and the University of Bern is inviting to his Inaugural Lecture: "Going with the flow, from microtechnology to precision medicine" with welcome words by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Burger (University of Bern) and Prof. Dr. med. Aristomenis Exadaktylos (Inselspital).
The duration of the lecture is expected to be 50 minutes, with an apéro afterward starting around 6 pm.

About Jérôme Charmet
Dr Jérôme Charmet is an Associate Professor at HE Arc within the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland (HES-SO) and at the University of Bern.
He received his postgraduate training (MSc) in biomedical engineering from the University of Bern, Switzerland, and his PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK.
He joined the University of Warwick in 2016 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018. He then joined HE Arc in 2021 to pursue his research focusing on translational medical devices for personalized medicine. Over the years, he has gained extensive experience in microfluidics and biosensors as well as advanced manufacturing processes. He was a Royal Society of Chemistry Lab on a Chip Emerging Investigator in 2019.
He has received over 4 mio. CHF in funding, published over 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and supervised 7 PhD students.
During his inaugural lecture, he will provide an overview of his career, focusing on the most recent work, including a device for the capture of circulating tumor cells that was used among others to identify potential responders to immune checkpoint inhibition therapy [https://doi.org/10.1021/acssensors.2c02577] or a new device for the diagnosis of urinary tract infection with combined antibiotic susceptibility within 2 hours (unpublished).
