The Master's Degree Program

At the core of the SBPE is the new Master of Science in Precision Engineering, an academic collaboration between the University of Bern and the Bern University of Applied Sciences. In this highly inventive study program, we promote creative, interdisciplinary collaboration between students and industry and impart top-class expertise.

Students from various disciplines like mechanical engineering, photonics, material science, electrical engineering, microtechnology, automotive and vehicle technology, medical technology or physics join this specialized master’s program. Graduates from a university or a university of applied sciences can be admitted without additional requirements and have the chance to directly continue towards a PhD after graduation. In two specializations, our students gain a comprehensive overview of the relevant areas of ultraprecision engineering or optical engineering, both in terms of scientific research skills and for professional qualification and applications.

At the heart of our program is the unique Creative Engineering Lab: A state-of-the-art learning and teaching laboratory. Here, students follow the path from idea to product in a real-life project and gain insight into the complete industrial process from innovation to production. This holistic approach opens perspectives in research, industry or entrepreneurial activities and ensures the long-term success of our graduates on the job market
